i love south park

i have loved South Park since high school.
it was some kind of special, unique and strange thing to come into my U.S History class everyday and have our teacher spend time talking to us about how much he laughed at the previous night's episode of SP. and it wasn't like our teacher was young. he was a grandfather already at this point.

not only do i like South Park because it was one of the first socially responsible and powerful mediums in our current TV, digital, streaming era ... using cartoons to comment on culture, politics, etc. so that it would be more acceptable to the american mental palette (like political cartooning, but better), but because i love love love love love LOVE Cartman.
i think he is hilarious.

yes, he's a bigot in all of the worst ways ... ageist, racist, elitist, phenomenally selfish ... but i just can never stop laughing when he's on.
and if it's an episode centered around him and his self-centeredness, oh man. my head hurts from all the laughing.
i wish i could be friends with him in real life.
i know he would hate me and be super mean and all that ... but i would eat it up.

i love his insults. so creative.
i love his mentality. so short-sided.
i love his hate. so ridiculous and unfathomably preposterous.

but, back to just the show itself.
i actually loved the way they did it for the first several seasons, more than now, only really due to the crude animation.
don't get me wrong, the show is still great.
and i still love it.

i just liked it a lot more before they started doing all the cartooning and graphics work on computers.

that said, because they don't do it all by hand, cutting out each character and doing it still-frame, it allows them to do super current and relevant.
this is most evidenced by this week's episode.

a post last week was about LeBron and his "what should i do?" ad (officially called "rise")
this is their fantastic spoof of it.
SO GREAT.
i loved it so much, i stayed up to watch the second playing of the full episode on Comedy Central just to see it again.

i hope you love this as much as i did.
if so, leave a comment as to why.
if not, leave a comment as to why.
:)

((see the original LeBron "rise" commercial in a post from last week))
