really?

so, Windows is coming out with a phone.
apparently, it's a "phone to save us from our phones."
the Windows 7 phone.

they have this GREAT commercial for it, that is simultaneously fantastic for its observational humor that we can all relate to.
and it's AWFUL for the fact that it's talking trash about the very thing that it, in fact, is.
a smart phone.

people don't spend time looking at their phones all the time because the phone doesn't show them things fast enough. people do that because they love their phones.
and they love showing off their phone to other people.
to show off.

it's the basis of our consumerism-capitalistic-whohasthecoolestnewthingthisweek society.

and, beyond all this, need i remind you: IT'S A WINDOWS PHONE.

anyone that uses, or has used, a Windows OS, knows all too well that it sucks.
i mean, one of the "boasts" of this phone is that it has Zune.
that still exists???

here's the full review.

but, ultimately ... this is a smartphone.
and it's trying to be a "different" smartphone than all others.

but it's a touchscreen.
and it has constant updates.
that you'll wanna check.

and it plays music (even if using Zune).
and videos.
and it has apps (no 250,000 though).
that you'll want to be using.
and checking.
when you can. if you can. ... read the review and you'll see why this is one of the more notable Windows  fantastic in-capabilities ... the problem with being fast, efficient and user friendly.

so, how can a product that is IN the category, rescue us from said category?
it's part of a marketing called mark cannibalism, though it generally happens within the same company. however, with that it's the smartphone versus all other phones, it works to call it this versus just advertising wars.

anyway, all that to say, long story short ("too late!" ... name that movie!), i am a huge fan of the ad.
not of the phone.
which i think is summed up in one line from the review: "a lot of the greatness is potential."
no.
unacceptable.

for Apple?
yes.
for Comedy Central?
sure.
for almost any other product that has proven it can come out with something with possible wary and/or concern, and show it will be great still. or soon. and we'll believe it.
do you believe that about anything Microsoft makes ... besides the XBox?
i don't.
and won't.

here's the ad though.
and it'll always be hilarious.
:)
