Victor Hugo is quoted as saying:
"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent."
i love music.
i always have.
my parents didn't even have a real stereo until they were pregnant with me, which they bought for the express purpose of filling my burgeoning fetal ears with classical music. this might have to do with a 3rd cousin of mine being the author of The Mozart Effect.
and my mom plays the piano.
and i started guitar lessons in the second grade.
and both younger brothers play various instruments.
but, music, i've found, is most powerful to me when paired with stories.
as in movies.
or, just in my own life.
my life, as i'm sure many others besides me, has a soundtrack.
but, mixed with the photographic memory i've been blessed/cursed with, music has an even more powerful (both positive and negative) effect on my life whenever i am encountered with certain songs or musical styles.
but, back to the movies, i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE movies.
and many times, i will choose a movie based-off the composer, not necessarily the director, actor or story. though, as evidence has proved thus far, if the composer is great, the others fall in line.
therefore i love, am inspired by, and wish i had the power that Alan Silvestri, Thomas Newton, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer and, of course, Alan Menken (this is only a short list, of a only marginally more exhaustive one).
here are some videos of some of my favorite works.
please to enjoy.
